What makes a good mixer? We believe that a mixer should impress with a reliable, stable performance and a simple operating concept. We love mixers which are built for all those small bands, rehearsal rooms, home studios and club DJs. Mixers which offer exactly the right features for musicians and do not take up that much space. Huge mixers which measure 2 metres and cost as much as a small car? Impressive, but not our style. A good mixer is a mixer for everyone, both in terms of usability and in terms of price-performance-ratio.

Mixers for DIY Rockers, Advanced Home Recorders and Professionals
In 2020, the IMG STAGELINE family of mixers has grown. We have added the mixer series MXR‑X, MXR‑XX and MXR‑PRO.
MXR-X: Plug and Play
To be honest, there is no cheaper way to get a reasonable mixer. A 4-6 channel mixer with integrated USB audio interface, simultaneous recording and playback via USB, plus a 5-band stereo equalizer. And all this not much bigger than a lunch box. If these are not compelling reasons to buy a new mixer, we hit a dead end.

MXR-XX: For Advanced, Budget-oriented Producers
This magic box of a mixer is crammed with up to 16 inputs, because this was our plan: to create a mixer with a price-performance ratio which is simply magical. It cannot, of course, compete with battleships costing about EUR 2,000, but what spectactular things can they do that you really need for live mixing or for some fat recordings? Well, then rather remove a 0 from the price and buy yourself a new guitar (we know you want it). The money is definitely better invested.
Advantages of Analogue Mixers
- Analogue mixers are available at an attractive price. If you are satisfied with the number of channels and a basic set of mixing functions, an analogue mixer is often the more economical choice.
- Analogue mixers are very easy to use. If you are able to use one analogue mixer, you can easily operate any other analogue mixer. Usually they have got one control for one specific function. Each control and thus each function is visible and can directly be accessed via the control panel. The controls on the mixers from IMG-STAGELINE are clearly arranged for intuitive use and the signal flow of the mixer is easy to understand.
“My buddy said that I do not need a mixer for home recording.”
Your buddy is right. If you want to record your own music, a mixer is not a must-have. An audio interface will be sufficient.
An audio interface is basically a downsized mixer. And a mixer is always an audio interface.
What exactly is an audio interface?
We can explain very quickly what an audio interface is. Just imagine: you are holding the aux plug of your guitar cable or microphone cable in one hand and in the other hand you have got your computer with the recording software (DAW). It is impossible to just plug your guitar into your computer. Some computers do feature a 3.5 mm microphone jack as a built-in interface. However, the audio quality is usually never good enough to record music. How does the sound from guitars or microphones get into your recording software?
An audio interface is a translator between an instrument and a computer: connect your guitar or microphone to the back of the interface and then connect the front of the instrument to your computer.
It looks like this:
The MX series: home recording has never been this small and accessible
The MX series fully meets the requirements of IMG STAGELINE's philosophy. The idea behind the MX series is this: how versatile and how high can the quality be of a recording interface with mixing features if we make it smaller than a toaster? The MX-1IO and MX-2IO are the answer to that. Recording, monitoring and leveling: all accommodated in the smallest of spaces.
MX-1IO

Integrated USB audio interface (will be identified and addressed as an external sound card) Full-duplex…
Or available as recording bundles with interface and microphone:
When do I need a ('real') mixer rather than an audio interface?
Keep in mind: an audio interface is a small mixer. However, even our audio interfaces have limited connection facilities, as you can see in the pictures above. If you are miking a drum kit, for example, you will need at least 3 microphones which will simultaneously enter the interface: bass drum, snare, overhead. And with this minimum configuration, you are still unable to mix them individually.
For multitrack live recordings, you must definitely use a mixer
“Price per channel”: sometimes it is simply a matter of price
How many input channels does an interface or mixer provide in relation to its price? The purchase price of the device divided by the input channels available can be an indicator of a good price-performance ratio. With an increasing number of channels, interfaces usually lose out when taking this calculation into account. They often provide less features, too.
Interfaces are a better choice than mixers, if you:
- … have very little space and need a small device
- … the device should be small enough to easily take it with you wherever you go (the MX-1IO weighs less than 500 g and features a width of only 12 cm and a height of 5 cm)
- … you only need to record one track at a time
- … never really need the additional functions of a mixer
Audio interfaces such as the MX-1IO are an attractive and practical alternative for singer-songwriters. A band, however, usually need more input channels.
Our Special Mixers, Part 1: Mini Mixers
There are times when you do not need a new, enormous mixer, you only need a small solution to mix a few individual sound sources. Our range of products for small studios and live applications is suitable for bands, musicians, stage technicians or club owners who often organise or play small concerts. In this case, we continue to fulfil our philosophy with regard to mixers: compact, accessible, reliable technology with most versatile connecting facilities.
The MMX series: microphone mixers and line mixers for musicians, mixers and multi-talented people, available for less than EUR 120
A prime example of our product philosophy is the MMX-31 which features 3 mono microphone channels and a separate level control. This allows you to mix the signal from three microphones separately and feed it to one source. Just as an example: You could literally intermix three drum microphones with the MMX-31 and send them to the FOH mixer, or the vocals of three backing vocals. You do not require a power supply and thus allow for maximum flexibility. Or do you just need a USB-capable device to balance and equalize two channels? Then, the MMX-11USB is all you need.
Use Small Mixers to Allow Creative Work
In one of the articles of our magazine about a brilliant live sound, Nils Wittrock of the band 'The Hirsch Effekt' has explained how he built an autonomous monitor from an XLR splitter, the MMX-31 and headphones:
- Split the vocal signal, right behind your microphone.
- One signal from the splitter goes to the mixer.
- Another signal from the splitter stays with you and goes into the MMX-31.
- The mixer brings your voice through the in-ear headphones to your ears and you can mix the signal reaching your ears independently
Our Special Mixers, Part 2: DJ Mixers
No matter whether solo entertainers, professional DJs for clubs or occasional event DJs: mixers should be robust and easy to use for everyday life on stage or at parties. Our DJ mixers provide features such as automatic talkover or stereo effects. Depending on the equipment, you can use an integrated MP3 player. Now, all you need for your next gig is your smartphone and one of our DJ mixers. For complex setups with several tables, we offer mixers with up to six channels.
The MPX Series: DJ Mixers for Beginners and Advanced Users
We are still following our way of thinking: good mixers should not be an expensive privilege. We provide mixers which show such an attractive price-performance ratio that everyone can make their vision a reality. We achieve this by concentrating on the essentials: a good sound, features perfectly suitable for practical applications and versatile connecting facilities.
